Start with the dry cacao amount
The amount of liquid in the cup does not tell you how much cacao you consumed. Record the weight of paste or powder used and check the manufacturer’s serving instructions.
Remember both methylxanthines
Cacao contains theobromine and some caffeine. Their amounts vary by product and processing. Neither a fixed number copied from another brand nor a promise of “caffeine-free energy” reliably describes your particular serving.
Include other daily sources
Coffee, tea, energy drinks and some supplements may contribute to total stimulant exposure. Sensitivity varies, and symptoms such as restlessness or sleep disruption warrant taking intake seriously.
Be cautious with special circumstances
People who are pregnant or breastfeeding, take medications or manage relevant health conditions should seek individualized professional advice. General articles cannot determine a safe amount for a specific person.
Use a lower-pressure ritual format
There is no requirement to consume a large amount of cacao to participate in a meaningful reflective practice. A non-cacao beverage or simply joining the activity can be appropriate.
